About the Author
Norris began teaching in a first-grade classroom at the University of Northern Colorado Laboratory School. He varied teaching career has spanned grades PreK through 8. She has directed a preschool program, been a remedial reading specialist, and acted as a district science resource trainer. Following twenty years of classroom experience in Colorado, Texas, North Carolina, and California, she continues to be active in staff development.

Good formart for teachers

I teach Special Education and I like the set up of this book for stories as opposed to some other types. This book has the story then several worksheets for each story that goes over various skills and even vocab from that story. It was nice to have a book that has more than 3-4 multiple choice questions for shorter passages/stories. This way we could do a story and spend several minutes on the work from that one story instead of having to read for 15 minutes and then only do work from that story for a couple. Like this!

Great book

Our daughter struggles with comprehension so we have bought this line of books for each grade and I have seen her improve a lot. It just is nice to have something to practice on and the stories are similar to the ones she does at school.

Terrific book for English Language Learners

I did not buy this book from Amazon, but going forward to the Read and Understand Grade 4 I will purchase from Amazon. This is a terrific book in terms of comprehension and vocabulary which is what our daughter needs. She is an ELL student and we continually work on vocabulary. This also helps with her sentence structure as she has to compose sentences. It works on sequencing as the student has to cut and glue sentence strips to retell the story. It has drawing exercises. The vocabulary has words with definitions that you match to. The words that we have difficulty with in the story, I write them on a white board to review with her. There are poems, fiction, and non-fiction writings in this book. And the best thing going for this book is that it is all in one book/self-contained.
